It provides irrigation and electricity for all of Egypt. From the top of the two-mile-long dam, enjoy breathtaking views of Lake Nasser, the massive reservoir created by the dam, as well as Kalabsha Temple to the south and the power station to the north.

The complex includes various shrines and sanctuaries, such as the Vestibule of Nectanebo I, the Temple of the Emperor Hadrian, the Temple of Hathor, Trajan`s Kiosk (Pharaoh`s Bed), a birth house, and two pylons. The construction of the temple began during the reign of Ptolemy VI Philometor in the early second century BC. The outer and inner hypostyle halls were added by Ptolemy XIII, and the outer enclosure wall, along with parts of the court, were constructed by Augustus after 30 BC (although much of these additions are now lost). Despite a 20-year interruption during the reigns of Ptolemy IV and Ptolemy V due to unrest, the temple was finished and remains an extraordinary example of ancient Egyptian architecture.
