The Eger Castle in Hungary

The Eger Castle is one of the distinctive historical sites of Hungary. Situated in Eger, the second largest city in the Northern section of the country, many travelers who visit Hungary are keen to explore the castle.

The very first castle to be built in Eger was constructed more than 1000 years ago. However, it was damaged during the Mongol invasion of the country in the 13th century.
Afterwards a castle following the gothic outlines was constructed in Eger. The fame of the castle came when a large Ottoman army of more than 30,000 soldiers tried to conquer the castle but all their attempts failed.
