Convent of Christ in Portugal

Located in the city of Tomar, the Convent of Christ was a Catholic convent until the 14th century and afterwards it was a stronghold that provided support and aid to the maritime discoveries of Portugal during the 15th and 16th centuries. Today, the Convent of Christ is one of the popular touristic historical sites which welcomes several tourists who travel to Portugal.

Included in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites as early as the beginning of the 1980s, the convent was originally constructed in 1118. The site has witnessed various historical events including an attack by the Abu Yusuf Al Mansour, famous Moslem army leader. Today, many travelers who spend their holiday in Portugal enjoy exploring its different buildings.
